Getting Personal with Mary Whittaker

Interview programme (2023).  Mary Whittaker is Scotland’s first ever Deaf BSL using minister, with a parish spread over thousands of square miles.  Her faith is strong, but as a child, she often felt excluded from her local church community and struggled with her spirituality as well as communicating with those around her.  Unable to see a future for herself as a teenager, Mary considered taking her life at one point.  Interviewer Deepa Shastri finds out how Mary overcame this emotionally turbulent start to life and found her place in the world – and within the church.  Produced and directed by Cathy Heffernan; a Drummer TV production for BSLBT.
